I'm a novice/maker/expert; is the Boldport Club right for me?
The projects that we create do not target any specific level of expertise
or audiences. We aim to create projects that could potentially be interesting
to anyone, although they are not of the 'learn electronics / how to solder'
kind (many of those exist elsewhere). Some projects are very easy while some
would be challenging even for the experienced. As long as you're willing to ask,
learn, explore, discover, try, and quite possibly fail at the process, you'll
be fine and in good company. If you're a complete novice, it would probably be best to
have someone experienced help with some projects. We have a large community on
our Slack group and there's always
quick help waiting there.
I want to gift a membership but I'm not quite sure that the person will enjoy it. What do you think?
That's really hard to answer. Does the answer above seem to describe that person
reasonably well? If so, that's a good indication. Our projects do not
normally require advanced equipment or other electronics that a hobbyist/maker/engineer
wouldn't already have. If we haven't shipped anything yet and you'd like to cancel
the membership then get in touch and we'll see what we can do.
Do you have a monthly subscription option?
No. Three-month billing cycle is the shortest term we offer. Since projects are very different
we offer the best value over (at-least) three projects. A month is also too short of a time to benefit
from engagement with our lively community.
May I buy a project from the shop without being a member?
Nope. The shop is a benefit for active members. Shipping isn't included in the price and is
delivered with the regularly scheduled project.
I don't want the subscription to automatically renew; is that possible?
Easy. You simply cancel the subscription right after signing up. The shipments
that you paid for will go out as scheduled but you won't be re-billed after that.
I placed an order of additional kits at the shop; when will those be shipped?
We ship shop orders with the next scheduled subscription shipment. That happens between the 10th
and the 15th of each month. If there's ever a need to ship an item before that, get in
touch and we'll see what we can do about it.
Some projects at the shop are out of stock; will you make more?
No plans for that. We make batches of projects every month and what we don't ship
to members goes to the shop until stock is exhausted. If we do end up making
a similar project (a variant), it would be somewhat different than what members got.
How do I access the Slack group?
Our Slack group is a benefit of the membership. You should have received an invite when you joined; if you hadn't, please get in touch.
If you're no longer an active member then your access to Slack will be disabled after about three months from your last shipment.
I've just missed the cut-off; can I still get this month's project?
Get in touch with us to ask. As long as we haven't shipped the projects (typically
happens between the 10th and 15th of the month) we can change
your subscription so that you get it.
I'd like a different project than the next one that's coming up; may I replace it with one from the shop?
No. Previous projects can be purchased from the shop and will be delivered with
the next scheduled shipment. Each month we create a new project, each focusing on a different aspect of electronics design, so over at least three months
you'll get a set of very different projects that provide varied experiences. Replacing projects goes against the subscription model we adopted.
We ship the same project to everyone. This also helps us with long term stock planning
and lowering our admin costs.
I don't want to get the next kit; can you skip it?
No. The subscription model allows us to plan ahead; skipping projects on-demand isn't
part of that model. Through your admin console you're able to skip a renewal, which is
a three- or twelve-month pause. There is no way to skip just one project.
The project arrived! It's lovely. But it is missing a component :( What's the plan?
Sorry about that! We do our best for that not to happen. Email us to let us know and
we'll sort it out as soon as possible.
